Crews battle fire believed to have started after illegal dumping

UPSHUR COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

Upshur County officials are investigating a blaze theysay was started by illegal dumping.

East Mountain fire crews responded around 8 p.m. on Wednesday to a blaze at the dead end of Porter Lane off of Farm to Market Road 1845.

Crews battled the fire all night and into the morning.The forest service was also called in with bulldozers.

Upshur County Precinct 1 Constable Gene Dolle saysillegal dumping was going on at the privately owned property, and that appearsto be part of what started the roaring blaze that consumed over 4 acres. Firefighters were able to contain the fire before it got to nearby homes.

Dolle says the incident is in violation of illegaldumping laws and the current Upshur County burn ban.
