Voice of the Cowboys speaks at East Texas Kickoff Luncheon

TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

Legendary broadcaster Brad Sham was the guest speaker at the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce Kickoff Luncheon Wednesday.  Sham is known as the 'Voice of the Cowboys,' calling games for the franchise since 1977.

Sham told a room full of high school football players and coaches that winning is not everything.

"When you think of Earl Campbell, you don't think of games that Texas won or lost or even games that his high school team in Tyler won or lost," said Sham.  "What you think about his how Earl played. How magnificent it was to watch him. We don't let ourselves do that when all we think about is who's going to win the last game of the year, whether it's the state championship or Super Bowl. We need to enjoy the competition and support our teams a little better."

Sham says he's excited about another Cowboys season.  He believes East Texan Dez Bryant is on the right track.

"He (Dez) was not really ready for life in the NFL in a lot of respects, not all of them having to do with football when he came into the NFL," said Sham.  "He seems to me to be someone that really wants to figure it and get it right. He seems to me to be someone who is a good teammate and wants to be a good teammate. Personally I think he's going to have an absolutely beastly year. If he does it's because he's figured things out off the field as well as on the field."

Don't shoot the messenger, argue with Jason Stark. The ESPN reporter released a reason for each MLB team on Tuesday explaining why they won't win the World Series. You might argue with Stark, but his point is pretty valid when it comes to the Rangers.
