Mega match up set: Brandon at Madison Central

MADISON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The most highly anticipated season opener in the metro, maybe ever, is finally here. Brandon visits Madison Central Thursday night at 7pm to kickoff the high school football season.

This is the first meeting of the two powerhouse programs since 2006. The all-time series is tied 5-5.

Brandon is coming off a season in which they went 13-2 and lost in the 6A title game. MC went 10-4 in 2012 and lost in the state semifinals.

There are plenty of storylines in this one, starting with the fact that Brandon coach Brad Peterson played QB for Coach Hall at Louisville when they won a state title.

There are also plenty of big time prospects, starting with the QB's, junior Gardner Minshew at Brandon and transfer Joseph Willis for MC. Other guys to watch, Fletcher Adams (DT-Brandon) Kyle Strickland (DE-Brandon) Trey Smith (RB/WR- M. Central) and Gemarta Jackson (DE- M. Central).
