GREGG COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

Authorities arrested a Gregg County man after he was allegedly caught stealing copper wire.

21-year-old Ruben Jaramillo of Kilgore was taken into custody Monday on one charge of criminal mischief.

Jaramillo was spotted by a witness attempting to steal copper wire from an electrical transformer near the 200 block of Smallwood Drive in Gladewater. He hid in a nearby structure after noticing a witness had seen him.

Police arrived on the scene and took Jaramillo into custody without incident. He told deputies that he intended to sell the copper to buy diapers for his daughter. Jaramillo was booked into the Gregg County Jail and has been released on $5,000 bond.
