Posted: Updated:
TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

Several local and county agencies in Cherokee County will be preparing for worst-case scenarios Wednesday by conducting a community wide disaster drill.

The drill will last from 8:30 to 11 a.m. and will take place at Jacksonville Middle School and Rusk High School.

Officials say the Cherokee County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) will be simulating both an active shooting and hostage incident and an anthrax attack.

Jacksonville and Rusk ISD employees will test their emergency response plans as portrayed victims will be triaged and transported to local hospitals.

The drill is being held Wednesday so that students aren't involved at all. Its a teacher work day for both districts.

But officials want drivers to be aware of what's going on in case they travel through the area during the drill, even going as far as to suggest finding an alternate route to use between Jacksonville and Rusk during the training.

Agencies involved with the drill include the Cherokee County Public Health Department, Cherokee County Emergency Management Coordinator, Cherokee County Sheriff's Department, ETMC EMS, ETMC Jacksonville, East Texas Council of Governments, Jacksonville Fire Department, Jacksonville Independent School District, Jacksonville Police Department, Trinity Mother Frances Jacksonville, Rusk Independent School District, Rusk Police Department and Piney Woods Regional Advisory Council Trauma G.
