Upshur Co. fire contained, homes no longer threatened

UPSHUR COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - Two homes were threatened by multiple fires along Highway 300 in Upshur County Tuesday morning.

According to Cloddie Henson with the Gilmer Fire Department, crews responded to seven or eight separate fires stretching from Grouse Road and spanning into the East Mountain area. The fires are contained and several of them have been extinguished.

The fires began burning around 11:05 a.m., but it is unknown how they started. The Texas A&M Forest Service, Gilmer Fire Department, West Mountain and East Mountain Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the blaze.

This area is four miles southeast of Gilmer near the intersection of Highway 300 and Farm to Market 726. Please be advised that smoke on the road could limit visibility and that there are emergency crews along the highway.
