Behind the bar at the Prescott Brewing Company taps were flowing Monday afternoon. Many of the pub's patrons were anxious to get a taste of its newest brew.
"It's my first try with Heroes 19," said Prescott resident Ron Williams.
The idea for Heroes 19 was put into motion last month when brew master John Nielson got a call from the Arizona craft brewer's guild. The group wanted to know if he could create a commemorative beer to honor the Prescott 19.
"Since one of the firefighters worked for us for over six years. I obviously said yes," said Nielson.
Breweries from across the state stepped up to donate supplies like hops, malt and grain. From there a brew was crafted symbolic of the Granite Mountain Hotshots.
"They put 19 hops in the beer. It's a 19 on the color scale and it went into fermentation on the 19th of July," said Nielson.
As far as the taste, Nielson said it's a medium bodied beer. It's got a definite hop character. It also has a nice malty backbone.
At $5 a pint, customers keep coming back knowing all of the proceeds are going to the firefighter's families.
"It's a nice way to support a good cause," said Williams.
Nielson isn't sure if he'll brew another batch but told CBS 5 he plans to release the recipe later this week.
Heroes 19 is now being sold at local brew pubs across the state including Four Peaks Brewery, Sun-Up Brewery, BJ's Brewery, OH-SO, San Tan Brewery and Papago Brewery.
