PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A new Maricopa County assessor has been selected to replace Keith Russell, who resigned in June to become a justice of the peace.

Paul Petersen, 38, has worked for the county for more than seven years as the assessor's representative and public information officer.

Petersen, who is a licensed attorney and court interpreter, was unanimously appointed Monday by the county board of supervisors.

He'll face election in 2014 to serve the remainder of Russell's term.
