Longview FD battles early morning barn blaze

Posted: Updated:
LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

Officials are calling a hay barn a total loss after fire swept through early Monday morning.

The fire started in the 2100 block of East Marshall Avenue in Longview just after 1 a.m.

Longview firefighters were alerted to the fire by someone driving by on Highway 80, but they said they had trouble reaching the blaze because the barn sat about a quarter mile off the road on a fenced-in property.

When they were able to get to the fire, they found a hay barn fully engulfed. They believe a tractor burned inside.

No one was inside the barn when the fire started and no one was injured fighting the fire.

Firefighters were at the scene until just before 3 a.m., but they said they would have to let the rest of the hay burn itself out.

Due to a lack of winds, they said they weren't worried about the fire spreading if it did pick back up, but said they would continue to check it periodically throughout the early morning hours.

The Longview Fire Marshal's office will be at the scene later Monday to investigate what started the fire.
