The 6th Annual Smith County Relay For Life is being held out at the Robert E. Lee High School practice fields in Tyler this weekend.
It's also the 9th year for the event to be held in Gregg County at Lobo Field this year.
The 12-hour events feature thousands of walkers, rotating throughout the night. All are walking to help raise money for cancer treatment and research. Featuring a number of different events within the event, the relay has become fun for those involved. But those who help put the relay on say it's about much more than that.
"It's really about a community coming together to celebrate survivorship and to remember those who lost the battle to cancer," said Lynda York, organizer of the Smith County Relay for Life.
About 320 cancer survivors are taking part in this year's Relay for Life in Smith County. They hope to raise around $150,000. The event in Longview is expected to raise about $100,000.
