Kyle Forst, a sailor in the US Navy, had been stationed in Spain for three years with his wife and three-year-old son.
Today, he and his family, arrived in an old-fashioned way to see his mother.
The three arrived at Mineola train station at 5:30 p.m. to a big group, cheering them on.
Though the distance was hard, Forst says it is worth it.
"So everybody else can have the same thing be able to go to and from wherever they go to and not have to worry about anybody coming, anybody coming over here and trying to pull another 9/11," Forst said.
Forst will be visiting for two weeks and will then be relocated, a little closer to home, in California.
