Former Trojans Danny Collins and Logan Pierce were selected to the 2013
College Baseball Insider All-America Team on Friday. The recognition marked the
second time that the pair was named All-America selections, as both were named
to the 2013 Louisville Slugger All-America Team in June.
A second-team selection by CBI, Collins was a semifinalist for both the Dick Howser and Golden Spikes Awards in addition to earning NCBWA and Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week honors during the year.
One of the top hitters in the nation, Collins
finished sixth in the country in doubles, ninth in runs batted in and 15th
in runs batted in per game.
A 13th round pick by the Pittsburgh
Pirates in June's MLB Draft, Collins finished the 2013 season with a .360
batting average, 25 doubles, 11 home runs and 68 RBIs. During 2013, Collins led
the league in doubles, finished second with 149 total bases, third in the Sun
Belt with 85 hits and a .631 slugging percentage, fifth with 75 runs scored and
sixth with a .452 on-base percentage.
This honor by CBI marks the fifth All-America
team Collins was selected to for his efforts during the 2013 season. Currently
playing for the Jamestown Jammers in the New York-Penn League, Collins is
hitting at a .263 clip with seven home runs and 25 RBIs, currently sits in
fifth in the league with 14 doubles.
Pierce, an honorable mention selection to the CBI All-America Team, led Troy
with a .364 batting average, 46 walks, 88 hits and .467 on-base percentage.
the 2013 season, Pierce put up career-highs with eight home runs, 24
two-baggers, 63 RBIs and 65 runs scored. Pierce finished ranked 12th
in the nation with doubles, 13th in runs scored and 50th
in walks per game. For his career, Pierce finished tied for first with 125
career walks and second with 55 doubles.
the Sun Belt, Pierce finished second in base hits and walks, third in batting
average, runs scored, doubles and on-base percentage and fourth in total bases.
In June, Pierce was selected by the 15th round by the Philadelphia Phillies and is currently playing in the New York-Penn League with the Williamsport Crosscutters. In his first season of professional baseball, Pierce is hitting .265 with four homers, nine doubles and 25 RBIs.
