GREGG COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

An East Texas man was arrested for having a sexual encounter with a 16-year-old girl.

According to the complaint, 43-year-old Samuel Lane McKnight of Kilgore was taken into police custody on Tuesday for sexually abusing a 16-year-old girl. An arrest warrant was issued for McKnight on August 2 after an investigation of the alleged incidents was performed by the Gregg County Sheriff's Office and the Children's Advocacy Center.

On July 19, Investigators contacted McKnight and requested that he submit to a video interview, but he refused.

On July 24, authorities telephoned McKnight on his cell phone, but the number was no longer in service. Six days later, investigators arranged to meet with him at work and conducted an interview. He denied any sexual contact with the teenage victim and agreed to submit a polygraph exam at the Gregg County Sheriff's Office on August 2.

On August 1, McKnight telephoned investigators and advised them that he did not understand what was happening and would not be coming in to take the polygraph exam. Authorities then issued a warrant for his arrest.

McKnight was arrested August 9 and released the same day on $25,000 bond. He is charged with sexual assault of a child.
