Tyler man steals family's vehicle in grocery store parking lot

TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

Tyler Police arrest a man for stealing a family's vehicle after trying to fraudulently purchase it in the parking lot of a grocery store.

Around 9:25 p.m., Thursday, Tyler Police responded to the report of a robbery at the Super One on Troup Highway. While officers were heading to the scene they were told the suspect, David Vanausdal, 23, of Tyler, fled southbound on Troup Highway in a silver Toyota Solara.

Once on the scene, police learned that the victim met Vanausdal to sell him the Solara, but during the transaction the he realized Vanausdal was trying to purchase the vehicle fraudulently, and a struggle ensued. According to the victim, Vanausdal used mace to forcibly remove him and his family from the vehicle before fleeing the scene in the Solara.

Vanausdal and the vehicle were eventually located at the Food Fast store on Highway 64 W. Officers arrived on the scene and placed Vanausdal under arrest for robbery and transported him to the Smith County Jail.
