Adrienne Salinas' roommates stunned by body discovery in AJ

TEMPE, AZ (CBS5) -

Adrienne Salinas' friends and family were cautiously hopeful she was still alive. CBS 5 spoke with her roommates Thursday who are stunned by news of a body being found with similarities to their friend.

Tempe police confirmed Thursday night that the body discovered in Apache Junction was Salinas.

Missing Adrienne flyers are still posted on doors and windows around the apartment complex where Adrienne Salinas lived.

Her roommates, who she had been friends with since sixth grade, say the last several weeks have been a nightmare.

"We already knew it's not like Adrienne to just run away," said Shainey Duggan.

More friends came to her apartment after getting word that a body with similarities to the missing 19-year-old was found.

"To wake up to something like that, it's just disgusting. It's terrible. It might be your best friend you know?" Duggan said.

Adrienne left her apartment around 4 a.m. to head to her boyfriend's place on June 15. She was supposed to meet up with a cab at an AM/PM convenience store off of Hardy and University, not too far from her home, but she never made it.

"Part of me wants closure, wants something to work toward and know that's she's not suffering. But at the same time, I want to believe she's still out there and she's still going to be coming back to us," said Duggan.

Emotionally drained, they hope the get some answers soon.

"Even if it happens to be her body, we'll continue to find out who it was, get justice and have that person off the streets," said Flores.

Rick Salinas, Adrienne's father, spoke with CBS 5 News over the phone. He said police told him about the body Wednesday night.

"We are treating this as a homicide investigation," Tempe police Sgt. Mike Pooley said at a news briefing Thursday night. "Our detectives are focused on finding answers. There are a lot of holes in this mystery."
