LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

A warrant has been issued for the man shot by a Longview police officer on Monday night.

According to Longview police, a warrant was filed for Shaun Antonio Thompson, 26, of Longview, for aggravated assault on a peace officer.

Thompson was shot at Penwood Apartments in Longview around 9 p.m. on Monday night after officers responded to calls about an armed person  at the complex. Investigators say Thompson would not follow requests to lower his gun and was shot by an officer.

"The suspect actually made some furtive moves towards the officer, which was why the officer shot," said Longview Police Public Information Officer Kristie Brian.

Witnesses said the man got into a confrontation with other residents outside of an apartment when he pulled out a gun on those residents, pointing it at them.

Thompson remains in the intensive care unit at a Longview hospital.
