Coming off a playoff appearance in 2011, Murrah entered last season with a lot of hype. But that turned to disappointment after they were eliminated from postseason play because of a fight during a game against Vicksburg.
That frustrating ending endured through the off-season and has been used for motivation as the Mustangs enter 2013.
Murrah has at least one reason to believe things will be fine, his name is Malik Dear. The junior sensation followed up his breakout season as a freshman with over 2,100 total yards and 32 TD's last year. Dear will be all over the field in this offense, taking snaps, taking hand-offs and catching passes.
He'll have help as 6'4 senior QB Vonnie Howard returns. Plus Dear's best friend and play-making buddy Marquis Chatman is fully healthy. Chatman, who broke his ankle in the first game his freshman year, still had over 400 yards of offense last season while being bothered by the injury.
On defense the Mustangs need to see improvement and a lot will be expected of big time prospect, junior linebacker D. Edward Proctor.
Murrah opens the season August 23rd at the defending 3A champs, Hazlehurst.
