GLENDALE, AZ (CBS5) -

A motorcyclist who told police he was "late for work" was clocked traveling 114 mph through a construction zone in Glendale, officers said.

Police also discovered the biker didn't have an appropriate motorcycle endorsement to his driver's license.

Troy Johnson, 21, of Glendale, was booked into jail Wednesday morning on several misdemeanor traffic charges.

A Glendale police motor officer could hear the motorcyclist approaching in the 4500 block of Northwest Grand Avenue about 8:40 a.m.

"I heard the engine revving and a real loud whine," said Officer Robert Solis.

The officer said he used his laser speed measuring device to detect the biker was going 114 mph in a posted 45 mph zone.

Solis said he used his public address system to pull Johnson over.

When told he was going 85 mph over the speed limit,"his demeanor was very passive," Solis said. "He did not realize the significance of the speed he was traveling." Solis said Johnson had no recollection of ever going that fast.

"For a vehicle traveling at that high rate of speed the driver can't act fast enough to avoid any dangers on the road," Solis said.

Solis said Johnson told him he was 30 minutes late for work.
