PHOENIX (CBS5) -
Two 85-year-old Mesa residents were killed when the car they were in was broadsided by a tractor-trailer as they pulled onto a highway north of Mesa on Tuesday night.
Earl W. Beasaw, the driver of the four-door sedan, and passenger Janie A. Siplle died in the 8:50 p.m. crash at the intersection of Center Street and SR 87 on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, said Raul Garcia of the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
Garcia said Beasaw was driving south on Center Street when he either failed to stop or yield to oncoming traffic and as the sedan entered the intersection with the highway, it was struck by the tractor-trailer.
Both occupants were wearing seat belts, but died at the scene, Garcia said.
No other injuries were reported.
No other information was immediately available.
