GILBERT, AZ (CBS5) -

Although she can't legally drive on the US-60, 15-year-old Brianna O'Bryan is already racing cars. While friends and classmates may be preoccupied with smart phones, video games, or shopping at the mall, Brianna is racing "quarter midgets." And she's winning, a lot.

"I'm trying to win the heavy 160 Indiana state series;  I won the heavy Honda last weekend," said O'Bryan.

For the Mesquite High sophomore, this isn't just a teenage hobby. Besides racing here in the Valley, she also travels to Indiana for competitions.

"When school ends, I fly out to Indiana and stay there for two months, and race every weekend. And then when I come back, usually on weekends, I fly back there every once in a while to race those weekend races," O'Bryan said.

With family in two different states, she said public reaction is mixed, depending on which state she's in.

"Everyone in Indiana, they're like 'oh wow, you race cars?'  But here, they're like 'oh, really, like little bicycles?' I say no, I race cars", said O'Bryan.

So, could we be looking at the next Danica Patrick?

"I would like to get into like sprint cars, then into indy cars, all that, and go to college," added O'Bryan.

Mom and grandma are supportive of her racing, and say they actually prefer race cars over boys.

"A lot of guys in this sport look down on girls, because they're girls and it's racing, and that's a boy sport," said O'Bryan.

Perhaps the boys are a little jealous that Brianna has more than 100 wins under her belt.
