Copper thieves forced the closure of an Arizona Department of Transportation's Motor Vehicle office in west Phoenix on Monday.
The facility at 4005 N. 51st Ave. was operating on temporary power and unable to provide customer services, according to an ADOT release. The theft was believed to have taken place Monday morning, according to the release.
The power and air conditioning systems were affected and repairs were estimated to last at least through Monday at a cost of $5,000, according to the release.
ADOT workers at that office were re-assigned to other ADOT offices in the Valley to provide additional help.
