H.S. Tour: Germantown Mavericks

GLUCKSTADT, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

"We were not the laughing stock, but we were what everybody wanted to play for homecoming. People sent us a lot of dresses, and we were invited to a lot of dances you know," Germantown head coach Tim Shramek said with a smile.

Growing pains were expected in Germantown's first season of football. The Mavericks won only three games in 2011.

Year number two was a different story.

Germantown won eight games and made it to the second round of the 4A playoffs.

Like coach Shramek says, best year in school history.

"The best year out of two years, that's right. That's kind of like somebody saying you are the best head coach and the best athletic director that's every been here. Well, I'm the worst too," Shramek said.

All joking aside, Germantown's improvement from year one to year two brings hope to what year three might hold.

The biggest change for the Mavs, a jump from 4A to 5A.

"We're excited. It's a new challenge to be in 5A, but it's all about these kids and these coaches. They are the ones that turned this thing around," said Shramek.
