TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

Many parents see nothing but dollar signs when it's time to send their students back to school, but an East Texas school district is trying to help with that.

The goal at Tyler's "Stuff the Bus" event was just that - to stuff the bus with school supplies. Tyler Independent School District partnered with Brookshires and multiple parent-teacher organizations to make the event happen. By Friday afternoon, the students had received a variety of donations, but they can always use more.

"We've got notebook paper, pencils, crayons and a backpack or two. Anything helps," says Matthew Spellman, the Moore Middle School Student Council President.

"Some kids can't afford [supplies] and it's good to help in your community for kids who can't afford it. For those of us that can, or other people that can, it's good to collect them for people that can't," says Moore Middle School student Bailey Smith.

The students will be collecting school supply and monetary donations at the  Brookshires Grocery stores in the Bergfeld shopping center and on Rice Road. The drive lasts until 7 p.m. on August 9.
