John Tyler Student Arrested For Assault

A John Tyler High School student is in custody at the Smith County Jail after allegedly assaulting a school parking lot security guard. It happened just after 8:00 a.m. Wednesday morning.
TISD officials say 17-year-old Charlton McCree was approached by the guard for violating the dress code by wearing a cap. Officials said the guard asked McCree to remove the cap several times. They say the student then struck the guard.
"We don't tolerate that kind of behavior at TISD or at John Tyler campus," said TISD Director of Secondary Education, Dr. Karen Raney. "That felony offense is an expellable offense and we will prosecute the student to the fullest extent of both student code of conduct and the legal process." The guard was taken to ETMC where he was treated for his injuries. TISD officials said letters were sent home with John Tyler students explaining the incident.
