LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Two teens may face the death penalty in connection with a double slaying over the weekend.

Kevin Schuler and Austin Scott both face two counts of murder and one count each of felony murder, robbery, burglary and theft.

Prosecutors formally charged Schuler and Scott for killing Asenath Arnold, 57, and Gary Henderson, 70, during a home invasion August 3.

"I've cried. I've prayed. I've given it to God," Tammyla Taylor said, an aunt of Austin Scott. "I'm thinking of their family a lot. I would like to see some of the people so I can just reach out and hold them and let them know we are sorry," Taylor added.

While Scott's family said they'll pray for Arnold and Henderson's family, the victim's nephew didn't spare words about a possible death penalty.

"We don't want these monsters to ever have the opportunity to do this to anyone ever again," Kevin Bays said. Bays' uncle and spouse of 20 years were killed early Saturday in their Greenville home.

Schuler and Scott are accused of breaking into the Harrison County couple's home around 2 a.m. Saturday.

Prosecutors allege Scott stabbed Henderson and then Schuler allegedly beat Arnold with a wooden stick.

Schuler told investigators he formerly worked for the victims and that he and Scott stole five guns, money and prescription medication.

Prosecutor Otto Schalk clarified misinformation about the night of the double homicide. "I told the family they have our full support. Ultimately, I have the final say in whether we pursue the death penalty. However, their input is crucial," Schalk said.

Schalk also clarified misinformation about the night of the murder. "There was no point where they left home and came back. Both killings happened inside the house at the same time. There was no extended period of time in between," Schalk told reporters during a news conference Tuesday.

Schuler and Scott are currently being held without bail in Floyd County and will be transferred to Harrison County to be arraigned.
