HARRISON COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

A former East Texas sheriff's deputy has been sentenced to five years in prison and six years of probation for two counts of indecency with a child.

Eddie Nichols, 50, was found guilty on both counts of indecency with a child Monday. Nichols was a deputy with the Harrison County Sheriff's Office when he was arrested in September 2011. Upon arrest, he was immediately fired.

Nichols was arrested after two teenage girls told school counselors that he had touched them inappropriately. He was arrested again in December on a third charge of sexual indecency with a child.

At the time the incidents occurred, Nichols was an officer with the Marshall Police Department, where he also served as the department's chaplain.
