Tyler American Cancer Society recruiting participants for cancer study

Posted: Updated:
TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

On Tuesday, members of the Tyler American Cancer Society began recruiting East Texans to participate in a cancer study.

Organizers say this is an unprecedented opportunity to participate in a historic study that can help understand how to prevent cancer.

Men and woman between the ages of 30 and 65 who have never been diagnosed with cancer (excluding basal cell and squamous cell skin cancers) are eligible to participate. The study is a long-term commitment that will require participants to fill out questionnaires periodically.

The goal is to enroll at least 400 East Texas adults, 25 percent of those people being of a minority population.

The study will better help researchers understand the lifestyle, environmental and genetic factors that cause or prevent cancer.

More than 300,000 people are expected to enroll in the Cancer Prevention Study 3.

Registration dates are this October 1-4.

Appointments to enroll can also be made at CancerStudyTX.org or by calling 1-888-604-5888.
