ETX boy starts t-shirt company to help pay for missionary trips

LIBERTY CITY, TX (KLTV) -

A Liberty City boy has started his own t-shirt company to help pay for others to mission around the world.

Braeden Simmons, who is now thirteen, started the company when he was twelve after a mission trip to Panama.

"I wanted to do something to help people go on mission trips and experience what I experienced and tell other people about Jesus," said Braeden. "I've been able to help 7 missionaries go overseas."

Braeden says buying these shirts doesn't just help pay for someone's trip.

"If you buy one of these shirts, that's a possibility that you're helping one person receive Christ," said Braeden.

At just eleven years old, Braeden recognized missionary work as his calling. He has partnered with The Cap House in Kilgore to manufacture the shirts he has designed himself.

"I just dig through the Bible and try to find scriptures that mean something to me and then I sketch the ideas and the designs," said Braeden

"He's been a big inspiration. You don't meet boys like this these days and so I think he's pretty awesome to take on something like this,"said Diane Bumgardner, the owner of The Cap House. "It has been a real pleasure to work with him and his t-shirts."

Braeden says the response for his t-shirts has grown rapidly. Local businesses like The Exchange have picked up the shirts. They say they are in popular demand and often have to put shirts on hold.

"They come here specifically for the shirts and then we have others ask about it and once they hear the story, they're quick to buy a shirt," said Amy Bixby, the owner of The Exchange.

Although she says it is scary to let him go on missions, Braeden's mom says she respects his calling.

"As much as God can protect him here, He can protect him even more over there whenever he's doing His will through Braeden," said Amy Simmons, Braeden's mom.
