It was 1961.
The golf world experienced something that had never happened and has never happened again.
Longview's Jacky Cupit won the PGA Tour's Canadian Open in Winnipeg.
His brother Buster finished in 2nd.
It is the first, and only time, brothers have gone 1-2 in a PGA Tour event.
"Going into the last day, he had a six shot lead and I had a five shot lead," said Buster. "Having supper that night we decided that one of us is going to win this tournament and he did and I got 2nd. No one has ever done it except us."
The win was the first of four for Jacky, who played 13 years on the PGA Tour.
The Cupit brothers successes are on display at the Sports Legends of Gregg County exhibit in Longview.
They still cherish the 1-2 finish from more than 50 years ago.
The feat is listed as a record in the Guinness Book of World Records.
"It really is the feather in our cap," said Buster.
"It is nice to be remembered, needless to say," said Jacky.
The Cupit's say they still try to play golf as often as they can.
Buster, 86, is the owner and operator of the Longview Country Club.
Jacky, 75, is the Golf Pro Emeritus at The Links at Lands End in Yantis.
