LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

A grand jury has indicted the wife of Gregg County Justice of the Peace Sam Lawson after police say she shot her husband in their Gregg County home in March.

Ina Lawson was indicted on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on July 25.

In March, police were told that Mr. Lawson and his wife had been arguing before she retrieved a handgun and allegedly him. A probable cause of arrest report says Ina Lawson called 911 and told authorities she shot her husband.

According to her daughter, in April, Ina was released from a behavioral health facility into the care of her granddaughter on the stipulation that she must be supervised at all times.

"This is not an issue about domestic violence, this is an issue about mental illness. My mom had made threats like this about killing my father for the last 5 or 6 years," said the Lawson's daughter, Debbie Drayden, in March.

The couple filed for divorce in April.
