Player Dies From Injuries

New this afternoon, a Grapeland football player has died from his injuries after last night's lightning strike at practice.

The varsity football team was finishing practice when most were knowcked off their feet by the strike. 18-year-old, Russell Pennington, was the most seriously injured. He died this afternoon at Memorial Herrmann Hospital in Houston. According to one of Pennington's friends, his kidneys and other organs began to fail.

One player told us he felt and heard nothing. There were just a few rain clouds in the area, but all say lightning was no where close when the bolt came down.

Some of the kids were knocked unconscious on the field, Russell Pennington stopped breathing. Coaches rushed over and began administering C-P-R on Pennington.

At this time, only one coach remains hospitalized at ETMC in Crockett, the rest of the players and another coach have been released.
