Former SFA Lumberjack Willie Jefferson is opening some eyes at Texans camp.
"I have him the nickname on day two of 'Sweet,'" said defensive lineman Antonio Smith. "Because that is what his moves are, quick yet swift with it."
Jefferson, an undrafted free agent, has already moved up the depth chart.
He began training camp running drills with the 5th team, but has recently been on the field with the 1st team defense.
"Coach Kub[iak] called me aside one day and told me that I had a shot to keep doing what I am doing," said Jefferson. "So I keep going, you have to grind to shine."
Jefferson is making quite the impression.
Head coach Gary Kubiak is constantly asked about the rookies training camp progression.
"He is a flash player right now, he can run and he has the ability to rush the passer which is what you need in this league," said Kubiak. "He is still very raw, so we will see."
"I have made a big improvement with my get off and my attitude," said Jefferson. "I'm just learning the aspects of the game and trying to prove that I can get off the ball and be a menace."
Jefferson is one of three Lumberjacks in NFL training camps this year, joining Josh Aubrey and Cordell Roberson who are both with the Cleveland Browns.
