MARSHALL, TX (KLTV) -
An East Texas man has been arrested in connection with the death of his seven-month-old baby.
According to the Marshall Police Department, 30-year-old Jayson Jones, also know as Lisso Jones III, was arrested on a charge of capital murder on July 9.
According to Marshall Police, Jones was babysitting for the baby's mother at Ryan's Crossing when somehow the
child's head was fractured.
Jones took the child to a local hospital, and the hospital notified police of the injury. The baby died at the hospital and an autopsy was performed, which showed the child's death was a homicide, and a sealed indictment was returned for Jayson Jones who had left the Marshall area.
On June 27, the Harrison County Grand Jury indicted Jones on one charge of capital murder. He was taken into custody by Louisiana authorities and U.S. Marshals on July 9 in Monroe, Louisiana.
"We notified Monroe and through
the U.S. Marshal's Service there in Monroe and the Quachita Parish Special
Services and he was arrested there in West Monroe," said Detective Sonya
Johnson of the Marshall Police Department.
Jones refused extradition back to Texas and a governor's warrant was obtained. He was transported back to Marshall on July 26 and booked into the Harrison County Jail. He is being held without bond.
