Cowboys go old school with Monte Kiffin

OXNARD, CA (KLTV) -

In search of better playmaking defense, the Cowboys have gone old school.

But 73 year-old defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin acts anything but old.

"Is he 70? I thought he was like 25. He really gets after it," said cornerback Brandon Carr.

"You would neer know that he is in his 70's, he comes to every meeting with a ton of energy and knowledge and we are all excited to soak it all up," said linebacker Sean Lee.

Kiffin does not want to hear anything about retirement, he says he has no desire to vacation during football season.

"I don't play golf, I don't hunt, I don't fish, I don't bowl, what am i going to do?" said Kiffin. "My wife does not want me to retire, I am not use to taking the garbage out."

Kiffin is the oldest member of teh Cowboys coaching staff.

He has added a much needed spark to the organization.

"Each day you can tell he is greatful to be out here," said Carr. "He is out here to coach us on how to play this game."

Kiffin began coaching football in 1966, the same year Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett was born.

"He has forgotten more than most people wille ever know," said Garrett. "For me, more than anything else, his love of the game, his love to coach and teach players and he has great juice and it is infectious and fun to be around."

Kiffin has led a super bowl defense in Tampa Bay.

He has a short amount of time to return the Cowboys to a championship level.

"Coach Kif introduced us a little slow just to get guys the grasp of the whole scheme," said linebacker Bruce Carter. "Wow we are out here flying around, just getting to the ball."
