Authorities in Indianapolis say three people were killed and 26 others were taken to area hospitals after a bus carrying teenagers coming home from a church camp crashed on a busy thoroughfare.
An Indianapolis Fire Department spokesman says the dead include a man and a woman.
Witnesses say the bus came off an interstate at a high rate of speed this afternoon, struck a retaining wall as it tried to round a curve and overturned.
WTHR-TV reports the bus driver told witnesses his brakes failed.
The Fire Department says crews had to free five people who were trapped inside after the crash. Four good Samaritans helped before first responders could arrive, including one man who helped pull the driver out.
The bus was carrying 37 passengers who are members of Colonial Hill Baptist Church in Indianapolis and were returning from a summer camp. The Fire Department says those injured included children and adults.
