LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

An Angelina County grand jury indicted a 20-year-old Lufkin man in connection to the June 12 shooting death of Albert Hodge, 60. Rakeem Levon Rhodes was among the 40 indictments handed down by the jury.

The Angelina County District Attorney's Office released the list of grand jury indictments Friday.

Rhodes is still being held in the Angelina County Jail on capital murder charge. His bail has been set at $500,000.

East Texas law enforcement authorities tracked Rhodes down at an apartment at Oakhill Plaza Drive on June 24. Deputies from the Nacogdoches Sheriff's Office and U.S. Marshal surrounded the building, and Rhodes was taken into custody without further incident.

East Texas News obtained a copy of the arrest warrant Monday afternoon. According to the affidavit, two LPD officers responded to a 911 call about shots fired at a residence in the 700 block of Weaver Street late in the evening of June 12.

When the LPD officers arrived on the scene, they found the home's front door standing open. One of the officers found Hodge lying on the floor with several obvious wounds to his face, chest, and arms.

"Hodge was gasping for air and appeared incoherent," the affidavit stated.

The grand jury list also included the following indictments.

  • William Brady Hooks, 49, of Huntington, was indicted for intoxicated manslaughter and two counts of intoxicated assault. The charges stem from a Nov. 30, 2012 wreck on U.S. Highway 69 South near Angelina County's Dead man Road that killed one man and seriously injured two people. Hooks allegedly had a blood alcohol level of .186 after his pickup struck the driver's side of a van.
  • Marquita Shamica Higgins, 30, of Lufkin was indicted on three counts of assaulting a public servant and two counts of harassment of a public servant. Lufkin Police officers Tased Higgins after she allegedly went berserk and assaulted four Lufkin Police officers when they tried to take her into custody following a disturbance in the 600 block of Weaver Ave. on April 23.
  • Rhiannon Melissa Brown, 33, of Wells, was indicted for injury to a child. Brown was arrested for injury to a child after she allegedly spanked her 6-year-old daughter hard enough with a belt that she had severe bruising on her lower back, her buttocks, and the backs of thighs. The alleged injury to a child occurred after Brown came home and found the little girl covered with ice cream in July 2012.
  • Glenda Marie Jackson, 20, of Lufkin, was indicted for arson. The arson charge stems from an incident on May 10 in which Jackson allegedly violated a criminal trespass warning and torched a car owned by the father of her child because he took her cell phone.
  • Johnathan David Williams, 46, of Huntington, was indicted for timber purchase as a trustee with the intent to defraud. The charge is in connection to an incident in which Williams allegedly harvested and sold 22 loads of the victim's timber and never paid the man the $5,815,38 he was due.
