RUSK COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

A Louisiana man managed to land his crop duster safely on a stretch of U.S. Highway 259 near Mount Enterprise Wednesday afternoon after his navigation went out, and he ran low on fuel. No one was injured as a result of the emergency landing.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Jeffery Higdon, 58, was flying an Air Tractor AT-802 when he made the emergency landing at approximately 4:40 p.m. Wednesday about a half-mile north of the Nacogdoches County line.

The pilot said he landed on Highway 259 in what he thought was the safest place. As he was landing the crop duster, it struck a road sign, causing damage to one of its wings. Higdon managed to come to a complete stop in a crossover.

The airplane was towed to an alternate location.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the emergency landing, according to the DPS report.
