BOWIE CO., TX (KSLA) -

The body of a 7-year-old boy with autism who had been missing for several hours Wednesday afternoon has been found in a pond in rural Bowie County.

Liam Hamilton's body was found by diver just before 8 p.m. in a private pond along Trexler Road between Redwater and Texarkana, not far from where the boy is believed to have wandered away from home.

"He was outside playing in the yard with his grandfather and he took off running," explained Liam's mother Amanda, "He likes to run and his grandfather tried to keep up with him, but Liam is like lightning and he couldn't keep up."

Bowie County deputies and agents with the Texas fish and wildlife agents began the search for the boy around 2 p.m., and came to focus on the pond after his baseball cap was found in the water.

Before the boy's body was found, Bowie County Chief Deputy Jeff Neal said that there was no reason to believe foul play was a factor in his disappearance. "We just believe he walked away from home and because of his autism, he doesn't know where he's at and the parents said that he will also run and hide from anybody that's looking for him."
