Cincinnati Community Toolbank lends tools to make a difference

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

There's a place in Cincinnati where non-profits, religious and educational organizations, community groups and their volunteers can borrow tools to make a difference.

The Cincinnati Community Toolbank, located on Central Avenue in Queensgate, lends tools to charitable organizations for up to eight weeks, including shovels, rakes and drills.

"It's a large warehouse full of tools that are available to non-profit charitable organizations to borrow for a small fee to take on larger and more frequent service projects in the community," explained Toolbank Executive Director Kat Pepmeyer.

In fact, it holds more than 9,000 tools valued at more than $100,000. The toolbank has helped more than 20,000 volunteers, including some of the largest groups from the Mayor's Corporate Challenge and Crossroads' Go Cincinnati Initiative.

The Cincinnati Community Toolbank has been open for less than one year. They are part of the national affiliate, Toolbank USA.

The tools are donated from several organizations, including the Home Depot Foundation.

To borrow them, they use a 'Tool Handling Fee', calculated by the following formula:

Total retail value of borrowed tools   X   number of weeks borrowed   x   3%
