Tyler Fire Department soccer team wins 4th straight state championship

TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

On July 15 and 16, 2013, the Tyler Fire Department Soccer Team participated in the 2013 Texas Firefighter Games in Kemah and won their fourth straight Gold Medal in the Texas Firefighter Games.

Tyler Fire competed with over 20 teams from across the state. In the qualifying games, Tyler defeated Austin #2, score 3 to 1; San Angelo, score 5 to 2; and Central Texas area, score 3 to 1. In the semi-final games, Tyler defeated Austin #2, score 6 to 1. Tyler won the Gold medal in Division 3 by defeating San Angelo, score 5 to 2, in the final. Tyler Fire has won the Gold medal once in Division 5, twice in Division 4, and now in Division 3. Team Tyler outscored their opponents 22 – 7 this year. Tyler Fire has been relegated up to Division 2 next year.

Members of this year's team include: Greg Crenshaw, Steve Wieczor, Logan Luttrell, Shawn Wilson, Jason Beasley, Terence Thedford, Eric Rozell, Bruce Hill, Mason Edney, Luke Terry, Chris Mahler, Tony Gumber and Riley Alvey as volunteer full time Assistant Coach.

The Tyler Fire Department Soccer Team was organized in 2008. The team has participated in five State competitions and has a record of 24 wins and 5 losses.
