Cowboys leaning on big season for D-Ware

OXNARD, Calif. (AP) - Dallas Cowboys defensive end Anthony Spencer is having arthroscopic surgery on his left knee and could miss the rest of training camp.

Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said Tuesday the surgery would be performed this week.

He said the Cowboys "don't think it's a very severe thing" and put the recovery time at two to four weeks.

He was the leading tackler last season and finished a half-sack behind DeMarcus Ware with a career-high 11.

The Cowboys will now lean on pro-bowler Ware to lead the defense.

Ware is making the switch from linebacker to defensive end.

"It is just putting your hand in the dirt and reading the formation," said Ware. "99% of the time you are pass rushing and it feels good to go out and feel whole again."

Ware played eight games last year with a various injuries, but has never missed a game in his career.
