CADDO PARISH, LA (KSLA) -
The Caddo Parish School Board will interview superintendent finalist Agnella Perera on Tuesday.
Perera is one of three finalists that are up for the position.
Perera is currently the superintendent in Isle of Wight, Virginia. That school system enrolls about 5,000 students. Before that, Perera worked as an area superintendent in Houston for about a year. Perera has a masters and post masters degree in administration supervision.
She is a Louisiana native from the Lake Charles area. Perera started as a teacher and moved up to principal followed by administrator, school improvement officer, area superintendent and then superintendent.
She was a finalist in a Florida school district but says she withdrew her application when an opportunity to come was possible. Perera is described as a courageous leader, known on the national level for making changes in her schools. She announced she was leaving her position about two months ago. Around that time, there were some accusations of controversial comments being made by a member of their Board of Supervisors. Rumors started that those comments may have been one reason why Perera may leave Virginia.
The CPSB will interview Perera at 2 p.m. The public is invited to meet her at 3 p.m. at the Caddo Parish School Board in the District Office Board Room located at 1961 Midway Avenue.
