Emergency crews are on the scene of a two-vehicle accident near the intersection of Highway 155 South and Farm to Market Road 2661 in southwestern Smith County.
Northbound traffic is being funneled into the left turn lane. Noonday and Whitehouse Volunteer Fire Departments are on the scene.
According to a Department of Public Safety Trooper, a pickup towing a trailer stopped in the roadway and was struck from behind by a sedan driven by 69-year-old James Harris of Tyler. Harris had to be extracted from the vehicle.
Harris and his passenger, Ann Harris, were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The injuries do no appear to be life threatening.
The driver of the pickup, Zachary Borton, a Conroe resident, was not injured. James will be cited for failure to control speed.
