CADDO PARISH, LA (KSLA) -
The Caddo Parish School Board is interviewing the first of the three superintendent candidates, John Dilworth, on Monday.
John Dilworth has worked in the Caddo Parish School system before, but left to be the superintendent in Montgomery, Alabama in 2007. During his time in Alabama, Dilworth was inducted into the Northwestern State University's Hall of Distinguished Educators.
Several Montgomery organizations raised money to offer him as an incentive to stay on their schooling staff. But Dilworth left Alabama to be closer to his family in Louisiana and to become the superintendent in East Baton Rouge in 2009.
Dilworth faced a little controversy over a company he hired to do some school construction. According to our sister station in Baton Rouge, WAFB, Dilworth did not disclose that the company, Volkert Incorporated, was being sued by another school system for $9 million dollars and that a former colleague of his was working for the company. He resigned as superintendent in 2010.
But Dilworth changed his mind and asked the East Baton Rouge School Board to waive his resignation. Dilworth then left four months before his contract was up because of "health reasons" in February 2012.
While Dilworth served as superintendent in East Baton Rouge, two schools were put on a year-round schooling pilot program, three charter schools were approved and he started summer schools for elementary students. He also consolidated several schools.
Dilworth has more than 35 years in K-12 and college education. Click here to view Dilworth's full resume.
One of Dilworth's colleague's said, "If we could, I'd hire him back today."
A public meet and greet will be held for Dilworth on Monday at the Caddo Parish School Board on 1961 Midway Avenue from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the District Officer Board Room.
