CENTER, TX (KTRE) -

The search for a child involved in a reported kidnapping in Shelby County has been called off and a family member is now in custody, according to police.

Around 12:30 a.m. Friday, Center Police confirmed an abducted 11-year-old girl was safe and the search for the possible suspect had ended.

Thursday, an unidentified woman left the child in her car outside the Loop 500 Convenience Store, according to Center Police detective Nicole Faulkner. Around 8:35 p.m., another woman reportedly came from the passenger side and into the driver's side of the maroon 2006 Ford Focus and took off with the child inside, along with the suspect's 15-year-old daughter.

Faulkner said the suspect was identified as a family member, 36-year-old Beatrice Pittman, of Center, and was first thought to be headed to the Kilgore/ Longview area. The incident is not believed to be a custody matter.

Tyler Police said an officer stopped the vehicle and spoke to Pittman, who then fled the scene. A pursuit ended at a bridge on Highway 69, north of Loop 323, when the vehicle rolled over.

Pittman, the 11-year-old victim, and Pittman's own child were uninjured. However, the three were taken to East Texas Medical Center in Tyler as a precaution. Pittman will also undergo a psychological evaluation.

Pittman was taken into custody by authorities and the children were released to relatives.

Center Police said they plan to charge Pittman with kidnapping and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. Tyler Police is also filing charges.
