Dog shot more than 30 times with pellet gun survives surgery, needs home

An East Texas veterinarian said he expects a dog to heal from being shot dozens of times with a pellet gun.

The dog was found by Longview police officers around Richardson Street and South Green Street in Longview.

The officers immediately contacted Longview Animal Control who is now working with the Humane Society of North East Texas and the Kimbrough Animal Hospital to get the dog the help it needs and find the person responsible for the shooting.

This dog is still smiling, despite having few reasons to.

"You think about a pellet gun being fired thirty something times, and the dog is just having to take it right there tied up to a tree, it's pretty bad," said Kenny Kimbrough with the Kimbrough Animal Hospital in Longview.

Dr. Kimbrough said he found even more problems in surgery.

"He's a little anemic, and he does have heart worm disease, and he had some intestinal parasites, and I guess my biggest concern is the heart worm disease," said Dr. Kimbrough.

Despite all of these wounds, the dog has not shows any aggression towards people or other animals.

"He's a real sweet dog; I guess he's just so glad somebody is helping him," Dr. Kimbrough said.

Although Dr. Kimbrough is very concerned about the dog's heart worm disease, he is hopeful this pup can move to a foster home within the next two weeks.

"I would think there is someone out there who would probably like to take this task on and see how he does," Dr. Kimbrough said.

Thanks to East Texans' donations, Dr. Kimbrough thinks all of the dog's medical bills should be covered.
