73-year-old man shot at his Antioch home

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A 73-year-old man was shot twice in a botched robbery late Wednesday in Antioch.

The shooting occurred around 10:30 p.m. at a home in the 4900 block of Cedar Hill Road.

Police said a resident was standing inside his garage with the overhead door open, preparing to take out the trash.

The resident looked outside and saw a person standing in the driveway just outside the door. The person told the victim to "give it up." The resident turned and ran back into the garage behind some furniture.

He later noticed the intruder did not follow him into the garage, so the resident turned and walked out into the open and toward the still opened garage door.  Police said the intruder fired three shots, striking the victim twice.

The injured man then ran back into the garage where he yelled for his son, who was in a downstairs bedroom. The victim's wife was also home, but no one else was injured.

The shooting victim was taken to Vanderbilt Medical Center in critical but stable condition.

"Obviously, anytime somebody's in their home and approached by a suspect, it's extremely dangerous. If anyone has any information in regards to the suspect, please pass it along so we can put them in custody," said Metro Police Capt. Ken Walburn.
