Denzel Washington Visits Wiley College

One East Texas college is still buzzing about the surprise visit of a major movie star to their campus. Students and teachers at the tiny campus of Wiley College couldn't believe their eyes as two-time academy award winner, Denzel Washington, visited the college to scout possible shooting locations.

Washington's current project is called "the great debaters" based on the 1935 Wiley debate team, and their struggle for academic recognition. In the 30's Wiley had one of the best debate teams in the country, beating national powerhouse "Harvard".  And students were honored that Washington showed interest in their history, many finding him a very approachable celebrity.

"I think it's amazing that a person of his stature such a big name would take the time to research our school, it's a small campus a small town, some people might overlook Wiley" says freshman class president Antravian Carter.

"I'm still in shock, I was amazed that a star of his magnitude would come to this little college and research a movie idea" said school academic advisor Kerl Nathaniel.

Although he won't star in the film, this movie would be the second directorial project for Washington. It's scheduled to begin filming in the fall of 2005.
