BBB warning East Texans about postcard scam

Posted: Updated:
TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

The Better Business Bureau is hoping to warn East Texans about a postcard scam circulating throughout the area.

On Tuesday, the BBB office in Tyler received a call from a woman who had her bank account compromised after calling a number on a postcard she received in the mail. She received a postcard about two weeks ago claiming that she had won a free $100 gift cart to Walmart or Target.

The number that the victim called is registered to a company called USA Benefits. The company tells callers that they will receive a $100 gift card after paying $6.95 using their debit or credit card.

The company is believed to be using the information obtained to purchase other "free offers" like the one advertised on the postcard.

As of Tuesday, it is unknown how much money has been taken from the Tyler victim's bank account.

If you receive a postcard like the one described by the victim do not respond to it. If you or someone you know has already responded to a postcard similar to this, you are asked to immediately contact the BBB in Tyler at 903-581-8373.
