Woman transported to Dallas hospital after house fire in Kilgore

KILGORE, TX (KLTV) -

Fire crews are responded to a house fire in Kilgore on Tuesday morning.

According to the Kilgore Fire Department, the house is in the 500 block of Turner Street.

53-year-old Sarah Barrett told us that she heard a popping sounds, grabbed her cat, and then exited the home through the garage. Barrett suffered burns on her feet and lower legs in the process of exiting the home.

Barrett has been taken to the Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas. The severity of her burns is not known at this time, but her sister says that burns on her legs and feet resembled melted wax.

According to Barrett's sister, the fire started in the kitchen.

The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental, but it is being investigated by Kilgore fire officials.
